I worked on that opening sentence (you stumbled on a modifying phrase) and I think it reads much better now. The old opening line was:

Amber light glowed from an open window in the back of the shack, sitting four feet above the water.

The new line:

Amber light glowed from an open window in the back of the shack, and from the rear deck a small dock floated with the rise and fall of the tide.

The suggestion you and the others made really helped. You know, I've been to one crit group meeting and to tell the truth, I don't have the time to be able to commit to critiquing someone else's work on a deadline type basis. My time is pretty well spoken for as it is, but I've learned so much from the regular blogs I read, I think I'm getting a pretty good return on my time investment there.

I'm gonna check out your blog on critiques. I'm getting better at it, but I still have a way to go.

Thanks for dropping by!Wonderwoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13118126631519254865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34499700.post-30607928371226377082007-05-18T01:04:00.000-07:002007-05-18T01:04:00.000-07:00Hey... try to find a local writers group as well.S...Hey... try to find a local writers group as well.

Sure, you'll have to trip through a lot of sub par comments ...mainly because giving feedback is a very hard thing to do well, but eventually you'll find someone you want to swap pages with. In person critiques are just so much better, and they open up a whole new group of people to know.

Good to see you back. I've got a bit on critiques on my blog right now.Kananihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08317494343177263398noreply@blogger.com
